JESUS LOVES ME

A song that we often sing is “Jesus loves me”. As we continue to sing the words of this song we find the words, “for the Bible tells me so”. This song is usually considered to be a children’s song, but it does tell a precious lesson. With these thoughts in mind let us see what the Bible tells us about the love Christ has for us!

One of the things that comes to my mind is how much Jesus loved His apostles: (John 13:1)  Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.” We can plainly see from this passage that Jesus never stopped loving His apostles, “he loved them unto the end”. Not unlike any of us Jesus also had friends whom he loved: (John 11:5) Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.” (John 11:36) “Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!” Getting back to the theme of this article let’s see what the Bible has to say about Jesus for the love of us.

The apostle Paul wrote that the love of Christ “passeth understanding: (Eph 3:19) “And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Friends, the love that Christ has for us is beyond comprehension. We can understand how a person might be willing to die for a love one or maybe even a close friend, but Jesus died for us while we were still sinners: (Rom 5:8) “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.

What did Christ do for us that prove His love is certainly a good question and we should allow the Bible to give us an answer. We cannot overlook the fact that He gave Himself for us. Paul wrote that Jesus gave Himself for us (Gal 2:20). In doing this Jesus washed away our sins: (Rev 1:5 “Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,” The love of Christ doesn’t stop there, He continues to love us yet today. Here are some of the ways: Christ loves us by interceding for us [Heb. 7:25; Heb. 9:24].   Those whom Jesus loves, He chastens and rebukes [Rev. 3:19]; this He does through the Bible. We are conquerors through him (Rom 8:37) “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

Let us never forget the love that Christ has for us. Nor should we forget that Jesus came to seek and to save the [Lu.19:10]. Are you among the lost?
