Will God
Save a Sinner?
In the
eyes of God everyone who has reached the age of accountability is a sinner: (Rom. 3:23) “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of
God;” If we
are honest with ourselves we must admit that we have committed sin in our past
life. Granted we may not have committed murder, stolen, robbed, lied, cheated
and the list could go on and on, however, according to the righteousness that
we shall be judged by God is going to judge all and condemn many to eternal
damnation.
But the
question that I proposed for our consideration is “Will God save a sinner”; and
the answer to that question would be “NO”. God will not save sinners. There
will not be one single sinner allowed to spend eternity in heaven. Does God
take delight in condemning anyone to spend eternity in hell’s fire? The answer
of course is “NO”. In fact God actually wants all mankind to be saved: (1 Tim. 2:4) “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the
knowledge of the truth.” God’s desire to save us was so great that He sent His Son, Jesus
Christ to this earth that we might have salvation: (John
3:16) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life.” If that is
not love then I have no idea what love is! Through this action God has provided
us with salvation: (1 Thess. 5:9) “For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation
by our Lord Jesus Christ,” Can we not
understand that if we fall subject to the wrath of God it is our own fault? God
has provided us with a plan of salvation, if we don’t take advantage of His
plan we have absolutely no right to blame God. Our damnation will be of our own
making.
God’s
Son, Jesus Christ is our Saviour: (Eph. 5:23)
“For the husband is the head of the wife, even as
Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.” The apostle Paul wrote that “Christ is the
head of the church” he then declares that Christ is the “saviour of the body.”
What is the body that Paul makes reference to? (Eph.
1:22–23) “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave
him to be the head over
all things to the
church, 23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in
all.” Since Jesus
is “the saviour of the body” and since the body is the church we must ask, “How
do I get into the church that I might have salvation?” Can man add me to the
church? Can a church add me to the church? Again the answer is “NO”. Only God
can add anyone to the church: (Acts 2:47)
“Praising God, and having favour with
all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be
saved.” Adding
anyone to the church is the work of God; He will surely add everyone to the
church who complies with His plan of salvation.
Perhaps
you are wondering what I must do in order to become a member of Christ’s church
that I might have eternal salvation. The first thing that is required is to hear
the gospel and believe what you hear. Paul reminded Timothy of the importance
of the gospel: (2 Tim. 1:10) “But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour
Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality
to light through the gospel:” Upon hearing the gospel you must trust what you have heard:
(Eph. 1:13) In whom ye also trusted,
after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom
also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of
promise,” After
becoming a believer what then? You need to confess: (Rom
10:10) “For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Is that all that we must do? Again I must
answer “NO”. We must also repent [i.e. turn around, stop sinning]: (Luke
13:3) “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall
all likewise perish. These are the words of Jesus Himself! Am I now a
possessor of salvation? “NO”, there remains another step; you must be baptized
for the remission of your past sins: (Acts 2:38) “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every
one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall
receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Have you obeyed
God’s plan of salvation? If you have not we would be most happy in helping you
to do so. Only God’s plan will save you, won’t you obey Him while you still
have the chance?
