clouds

Although I do not observe what the world calls “Easter Sunday” {I believe this is a poor translation} I would like to tell you something that happened a few years ago on an Easter Sunday. We were coming home from the evening worship services, we had just turned on Wildcat Drive when our grandson, Billy, said, “Look” and pointed to a cloud in the sky. We all saw it, it looked just like a color book drawing of a rabbit {another time we should have had a camera}. I don’t place anything significant on this sighting, but I have since a child found it very interesting to look at clouds and look for some shape that resembled an object that I am familiar with. If you have never done this you are missing out on a lot of fun.

A study of the word “cloud” as found in the Bible is also very interesting, let’s do a little word study of the word “cloud” at this time.

Clouds are formed from the sea; (1 Ki 18:44)  "And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, They are called “garments of the sea”; (Job 38:9)  "When I made the cloud the garment thereof, God established the clouds; (Prov 8:28)  "When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:" God balances the clouds in the air and they show His wonderful works and knowledge; (Job 37:16)  "Dost thou know the balancings of the clouds, the wondrous works of him which is perfect in knowledge?" (Psa 147:8)  "Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains."

I find it very interesting that Jesus’ glory and power shall be seen as He comes again in the clouds. (Mat 24:30)  "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." As Jesus ascended from this earth He was received in a cloud {Ax. 1:9} and He shall return in like fashion; (Acts 1:11)  "Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven." Might this not be another reason to watch and study the clouds?

In many ways Christians are to resemble the clouds. God scatters His clouds; (Job 37:11)  "Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:" Christians are sometimes scattered; (Acts 8:1)  "And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles." Clouds are illustrative of a multitude of people; (Heb 12:1)  "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,” The Bible illustrates a hostile army by clouds; (Ezek 38:16)  "And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land;” Do you know that clouds are even illustrative of the sins of mankind? (Isa 44:22)  "I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee."       Friends, there is so much that can be learned just by studying the things that God has created. Not only are the clouds beautiful to look at there are also many lesson that can be gleaned from studying the clouds which God has given us. If you will only take a little time out of your life to study God’s clouds you will be amazed at what you might learn.
